fashion month

Happy October! So far this has been the most turbulent and exciting month of the year! My personal life, career, spiritual, and all other areas have been shifted, and things have gotten better. As fashion month continues I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the most extraordinary, unique, and inspiring collections on the runway spotting trends and looks. I haven't shared everything I've illustrated mainly because they all go directly to my instagram. And because I've sketched so much throughout the weeks I haven't set time aside to post them all up on my blog {sorry!}. I've been a pretty busy girl, but I'm definitely loving life right now :) ..

This week I've been invited to Style Fashion Week in LA and I'm super excited to be going with one of my favorite girls! I can't wait to share with you all this amazing experience!

bows

London Fashion Week just kicked off and so far my first favorite collection is Sibling. I spent the whole day at the beach and squeezed in a little sketching time! I love the big bows worn on every model's head.. This would actually be another  extension of my last post "derby worthy hats".

As the countdown til the end of summer begins, everyone in California is getting the best of the summer sun. This is supposed to be the hottest weekend of the season. I came home with my entire back torched.. and I'm also super sore from doing yoga all day and nearly drowning underneath the strong waves. It was amazing.

derby worthy hats

Hatsonhatsonhatsonhats. I call this "derby worthy hats". It's super big, loud, and heavy on your heads I'm sure. I thought of the movie "My Fair Lady" with Audrey Hepburn in that one decadent scene at the derby where everyone was looking fabulous.. my hand totally hurt after sketching all this because of the small details I had to consider.

long tailed oversized dress shirt

This has been on my mind for a while, and I've been waiting around to put it to paper. And finally I did...! This is an oversized dress shirt which is duh, already that one trend everyone knows about! But one different detail that I think will be keeping this look around is an exaggerated tail of the dress shirt from the back! And other details should include a center back split seam from the waist down, like those guys' coats with the top hats from the Edwardian era. Another important detail is the bare tummy buttoned down look that I've mentioned on my other post bare & painted.

And there you have it! Looking forward to seeing it happen! :)

that mod look

I love this collection especially because my own personal style is currently influenced by the 60s. So you can just imagine how excited I was to see this. This was some major intuitive illustrating I did today. Meaning no erasing whatsoever. All the smudges and mistakes are still present :).

just scribbling

Everyone's at Burning Man today.. and I'm not. Sad, but not that sad. I definitely feel summer is ending.. the weather is drier and it's breezier these days. I know because Fall is my least favorite season and I'm very ultra mega sensitive to dry weather. I'm starting to stock up on Allegra which by the way works like a charm.. and it's non-drowsy. I've been shopping A LOT this entire month, splurging on clothes andfood. Oh, I also started a weird diet too! I've been doing intense hiking every other day and it's driven me to eat more junk food than healthy food. I've been eating 2-3 Sprinkles cupcakes every week. My favorite flavors are Strawberry, Coconut, and Banana. I've also been skipping out on drinking my green juices every morning. And I've been treating myself out to wine and dine alone. I like to spoil me I guess. But with all the unhealthy eating and hiking, my body's never looked better. I guess it's that extra love I put towards myself ;)

a comfy silhouette

This is basically the drop crotch Justin Bieber pant. But I'm looking at this trend in denim. Just like the boyfriend jeans, girls want to feel comfortable but sexy. I feel like only tall girls can pull this look off and look cute in flats. But if you're short or average in height, wear heels, like always because then you could unintentionally look like a pear with little feet sticking out. This is a great silhouette to wear comfortably if you don't like exposing your stomach because you're bloated from last night's In-N-Out double-double burger {me}. And...! You can wear your ugliest panties underneath them without anyone ever knowing! The silhouette itself will take the attention away from your stomach and butt so that it'll give you room to breathe, but in style. If your body is carrot shaped, wear this pant with a boxy tank or tee. If you have an hourglass shape like me, wear a fitted crop tee or tank. If you have an apple  or pear shaped body, this silhouette may not work for you.. boyfriend jeans  will work better.

style hunting

I love Unique LA! You get an eyeful of rare art, trinkets, and goodies - and not to mention the fashionable kids that go! It's like the Melrose Flea Market. I went just this weekend to do some style hunting and quick sketching for inspiration. I picked a few kids that stood out to me the most.. Please excuse the messiness, this was intuitive illustrating and super quick sketching.

fashionista tin box

If you didn't already know, my style of illustrating has multiple personalities. They change in size, medium, and character. Sometimes it's frustrating because it's inconsistent with the rest of my work, but then again I love that I'm flexible with my artwork because I discover new tricks and strategies as I continue to explore my style of illustrating. At the end of the day, I only share work that I'm proud of and love! Instead of taping these little fashion bloggers back into my sketchbook, I decided to stash them in my empty organic peppermint tin box. And how cute is this?! I can't wait to fill it up with more!

I typically draw four of my favorite outfits of each fashion blogger. Today's muse is Willabelle of Pale Division. Her style is very classy, and she's such a doll. I love her play with pastel colors. She also takes amazing and mouth drooling photos of food. I can't handle it.

bare & painted

Here's a new way to button up a dress shirt! It's a tad risque, but it can be done. It's a brand new trend so it'll be a while until this look is played out. And the painted denim continues.. it's a work of art!

silhouettes & details

Denim trends continued! Boyfriend jeans are very much the hype these days. It's the most comfortable fit and it's making its way into the new sexy versus the skinny jean. While there's many variations of the boyfriend - wrecked, distressed, baggy, skinny, relaxed, bleached, I feel that the "tailored" boyfriend will soon make its introduction. I can't predict that it will become a fad, but rather just an extension of the boyfriend jean which I feel the life span of its popularity will last a few more years. This doesn't only apply in the denim department but also the wovens as well. It's becoming a classic look. I actually don't even own a pair... ugh! I haven't found my perfect match just yet!

boxy-crops_tailored-bottoms.jpg

The boxy denim crop top is a new silhouette I've found that will probably emerge as a contemporary occasional look rather than a casual every day look. Not everyone can pull this look off however because it's denim, it's cropped, and it's a boxy fit. But who knows! I'd love to see how people style this up! It's super chic.. I can definitely see bloggers like Fashion Toast, Le Blog de Betty, A Fashion Nerd, and The Haute Pursuit pulling this off. I probably can.. maybe, not sure.. lol. Stay tuned for more trends I've discovered!

color explosion

Splattered paint applications are returning once again on denim. In my illustration I incorporated it as a block piece (inner legs and jacket sleeves) denim contrast.. change it up ya know? } ---

color-explosion_.jpg

I jumped back into work after a week long {andmuch needed} vacay and to my surprise for my first big project at work I was asked to do trend research for a meeting on Monday. Heck yes! This is only what I've been wanting to get back into since I started working in the fashion industry! Omg I was excited, so excited. Boss lady asked me to incorporate my fashion illustrations as well which made me the happiest girl in the world that day. I was born for this! In case you all didn't know, I began my career as a trend forecaster where I was sketching garments and fashion illustrations all day every day. Not to mention the endless shopping I did that was part of the job which turned into an addiction earlier in life. It was my dream job. I got to work in Tokyo and Hong Kong.. and shop! It was an amazing experience that ended so soon. But at the same time I'm so very grateful for that experience and also the other experiences that followed after. Understanding the fashion industry, the way garments are made, constructed, processed, and most of all learning the balance of design has brought me here. Everything I've learned I can now pull together and fine tune and hone my talent. :) #nevergiveup

So for the long weekend this 4th of July, I've been working my heart and soul into this project and definitely wanted to share it with everyone.. I'm going to continue where I left off when I began this blog. It's a place for trend forecasting alongside my illustrations. So here's a looksy into Fall/Holiday 15 for denim...! There are 9 more fashion dolls next in line, so stay tuned for the next trending group!
